Kreta Ayer Seniors Activity Centre (KASAC) was set up by Dr Richard Hu who was then the Minister of Finance and a member of Parliament in the Kreta Ayer Constituency. In 1995, he engineered the mechanics of the Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) to form the KASAC Management Committee. KASAC was formed with the aim of assisting senior citizens in achieving a happy and fulfilling life through professional mangagement of resources and funds obtained from CCC, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and also donations from the general public.
There are 3 KASACs namely – Banda SAC, Chin Swee SAC and Jalan Kukoh SAC. In total, there are more than a thousand elderly members. These elderly are encouraged to participate in morning excercises, health screening, interactive activities and excursions. The SACs also provide meal services for the elderly.
